ACADEMY FIGURE SKATING
The St. Albert Skating Centre, Figure Skating Academy, offers inclusive programs for all levels and abilities, from Learn to Figure Skate Star 1 to Senior Competitive. Our highly qualified professional coaches work together to ensure that each skater achieves their personal bench marks. Through figure skating programs, athletes learn a variety of life skills in their pursuit of personal goals. We believe Figure Skating leads to excellence in goal setting, planning, focus, confidence, problem solving, and time management.

Star 1 Group Figure Skating
Learn To Figure Skate - STAR 1 is the "Transitioning Program" into our Figure Skating Academy designed to fast-track CanSkaters/Advanced CanSkaters who desire to be STARSkates or Competitive figure skaters. Learn to Figure Skate - Star 1 is a two day, group lesson program taught by our professional Coaching Staff and incorporates basics of skating along with figure skating spins, jumps and ice-dancing.
Criteria for moving into the Group Figure Skating Program:
- CanSkate Stage 2/3 or talent ID'd by SASC Coaching Staff.
- Desire to Figure Skate
- Ability to skate forward and backward and glide on one foot
- Proper figure skates
Junior Academy Figure Skating Star 1 to 5
Junior Academy Skaters can choose from 3 to 5 days per week. This program includes on and off-ice group classes. Private/semi-private lessons must be booked with a SASC Professional Coach of your choice and paid directly to the Coach. Skaters will progress though the STAR 1-5 Skate Canada Standardized evaluations in Skating Skills, FreeSkate and Ice-Dancing and have the opportunity to perform at Competitions. Junior Academy is the pathway to Gold level Achievements, Competitive Figure Skating and other StarSkate Events. Junior Academy Skaters are our STARS of tomorrow.
Intermediate/Senior Academy Figure Skating Star 6 to Gold
Four to Seven days/week - Private Semi/Private LessonsAdvanced STARskate and Pre-Juvenile Competitive Skaters. For Skaters Star 6 to Gold.
Intermediate/Senior Academy skaters can choose from 4 to 6 days per week and up to 8 Freeskate sessions. This program includes on and off-ice group classes. Private/semi-private lessons must be booked with a SASC Professional Coach of your choice and paid directly to the Coach. Skaters will progress though the STAR 6 to Gold Skate Canada Standardized evaluations in Skating Skills, FreeSkate, Ice-Dancing and Artistic. These athletes have the opportunity to perform at StarSKATE Competitions or enter the Competitive stream. Intermediate/Senior Academy is the pathway to Gold level Achievements, Competitive Figure Skating and other STARSkate Events.
Competitive - Day Ice Academy Figure Skating
Five days/week - Private Semi/Private Lessons
Skaters Skate 8 to 10 Freeskates per week and are Juvenile or higher or Star 8 to Gold.
Senior & High Performance Academy Skaters train 5 days per week, two freeskate sessions per day and daily on and off-ice classes. Skaters at this level are in the Juvenile to Senior competitive stream and are preparing for Skate Canada Provincial, Sectional and National Competitions in Singles, Pairs and Dance. There is a team of coaches to assist athletes in this program to reach their goal. Skaters must skate 8 to 10 free skate sessions per week to use the Day Ice Academy Program and be at the appropriate level of Freeskate Tests.
This program consistently produces high level competitive skaters.
